Best Goex FFFg Black Powder
Goex FFFG Black Powder is suited for Rifles (50-caliber and smaller), Pistols and Revolvers. While Goex has improved manufacturing processes and material quality, they have manufactured black powder using traditional materials to provide the same great ignition characteristics and uniform speed that master shooters and hunters have relied on for over 200 years. Goex Black Powder is available in different granular sizes to tailor performance to a specific firearm. From FFFFg (smallest) to Cannon (largest), Goex has a granulation size for your firearm.

The rugged container seals up tight, keeping humidity completely out. I live in a coastal area with high moisture, but the powder remains perfectly dry, crisp, and ready to fire. A fantastic American-made product that never disappoints.
Hawkeyes –
Bought a case of this to split with some guys at the local muzzleloading club. Every single container was pristine, dry, and packed tight. We spent the weekend burning through a couple of pounds with zero ignition failures across a dozen different custom rifles.
Hillbilly Gunner –
This powder flows smoothly through my brass volumetric measures without binding up or bridging. Every charge drops cleanly and weighs out consistently on the scale. Makes mass-producing black powder cartridges a breeze.
FairWeather –
As a living history reenactor, I need historical accuracy. Goex provides the authentic smell, smoke volume, and fouling characteristics of 19th-century powder. It gives our demonstrations the exact sensory experience we aim to teach.
Redmt –
Every reloading manual and muzzleloading guide uses Goex as the baseline standard for a reason. It is predictable, safe, and performs exactly to spec. If you are a beginner getting into the hobby, start here before trying anything else.

Unlike black powder substitutes which can be incredibly stubborn to ignite in traditional side-hammer guns, real Goex FFFg catches the spark instantly. I get immediate ignition even on damp, humid mornings out in the woods. Reliable meat on the table with this stuff.

While it is a true black powder, the fouling it leaves behind is quite soft and greasy rather than hard and crusty. It makes it easy to ram a second or third patched ball down the muzzle without needing to run a patch through the bore between every single shot.
Colorado Kid –
We use this FFFg to load small-scale signal mortars for historical demonstrations. It produces an incredibly loud, sharp report and an excellent, dense cloud of white smoke that looks fantastic for spectators. Reliable ignition every single time.

Excellent consistency from lot to lot. Shot a tight 1.5-inch group at 50 yards with my muzzle-loading pistol using 25 grains of FFFg. While it creates the expected black powder fouling, it softens up easily with standard water-based cleaners. Highly recommend to anyone shooting smaller calibers.
Ag_2006 –
Poured a pound of this through a sieve out of curiosity, and the granulation is incredibly uniform. Almost no graphite dust or broken fines at the bottom of the can. That consistency is exactly why it throws such repeatable charges through my volumetric measure.

I bought this bottle specifically to use as a main charge and flash-pan powder for my .45 caliber flintlock rifle. Instantaneous ignition. I haven’t had a single misfire or hang-fire since switching to this batch. If you want authentic performance for traditional muzzleloading, look no further.

If you’ve ever experienced that annoying ‘click-boom’ delay with synthetic powders, switch to Goex. The ignition is immediate. The moment the cap explodes or the flint strikes, the gun goes off. It drastically improved my follow-through and accuracy.
SWNMELK –
I use this for both my .36 caliber percussion rifle and priming the pan on my flintlocks. It’s fine enough to ignite quickly but robust enough to serve as a great main charge for smaller bores. It’s incredibly versatile if you run a lot of traditional style firearms.

Ran a few strings over the chronograph with my .50 cal rifle using FFFg instead of my usual FFg just to see the difference. Standard deviations were in the single digits! A slightly faster burn than FFg, but incredibly uniform. My rifle absolutely loves this powder.
Ohiowhitetail –
I bought a few pounds from a completely different lot number than my last batch, and the point of impact on my target didn’t shift at all. That level of quality control and consistency across production runs is why Goex remains the industry leader.

People complain about the mess of real black powder, but Goex fouling cleans up way easier than some of the sticky synthetic substitutes. A few patches dipped in hot, soapy water dissolves the fouling instantly. The barrel treats like a mirror afterward.

This FFFg is the absolute perfect burn rate for my 1851 Navy and 1858 Remington replicas. It packs nicely under the round ball, provides plenty of power, and leaves soft fouling that doesn’t bind up the cylinder right away. It’s the only powder I trust for cowboy action shooting.
Widrig –
I load my own black powder cartridges for Cowboy Action Shooting, and Goex FFFg is my go-to choice. It fills the brass perfectly, compresses uniformly, and delivers that authentic thump and smoke cloud the crowd loves. Never a dud or a weak squib.
Farmerj –
My Pietta and Uberti revolvers run strictly on Goex. FFFg gives just the right amount of velocity behind a lead round ball without excessive recoil. The fouling stays soft enough that I can shoot 5 or 6 cylinders before needing to wipe down the cylinder pin.
J_Cham13 –
Just opened a can of Goex FFFg that I had tucked away in a dry climate-controlled closet for nearly seven years. Shot just as crisp, fast, and clean as a fresh batch bought yesterday. Real black powder lasts a lifetime if you store it right.

If you are tired of the ignition delays caused by Pyrodex or Triple Seven in your flintlock, just buy a can of Goex. FFFg flows perfectly through my powder measure, ignites flawlessly, and delivers that classic cloud of white smoke. Clean up is easy if you know what you’re doing.
Rack Daniels –
I’ve been using Goex FFFg in my .44 caliber cap-and-ball revolvers for over a decade. It ignites reliably every single time, burns exactly how it’s supposed to, and gives me consistent velocities. There are a lot of synthetic substitutes on the market today, but nothing beats the smell, performance, and history of real Goex black powder.

While some guys use 4 Fg exclusively for priming, I’ve found that this 3Fg works beautifully as both the main charge and the primer in a pinch. It catches the spark from the flint instantly. It simplifies my range bag since I only have to carry one flask.
Dawson –
There’s nothing quite like the sulfur smell and the low, booming report of genuine black powder. Goex delivers that authentic historical experience every time. The accuracy at 75 yards with my patch and ball is just the icing on the cake.
RobertD42 –
After the factory disruptions a while back, I was thrilled to get my hands on this new production run. It performs just as great as it always did. Fast ignition, consistent pressures, and uniform granulation. It’s the backbone of the muzzleloading community for a reason.
SurShot –
Arrived completely sealed and in perfect condition. The grain size is perfectly uniform with zero dust or crushing in the container. Took it out to the range yesterday and went through 40 rounds without a single hitch. Will definitely buy a few more pounds to stock up.
